Rooted in the Same Sea

HydraTech Marine was founded by three sailors who grew up in the same suburb of Athens, connected long before business brought them together. What began as shared time around boats gradually evolved into a professional partnership built on trust, experience, and complementary strengths.

Today, HydraTech Marine operates from Olympic Marine, Lavrion, serving private yacht owners and undertaking technical and management projects throughout Greece, while remaining available wherever our clients require support.

Different Paths, Shared Direction

Dimitris Kalantzis began sailing in early adulthood and quickly moved into competitive racing. Alongside advanced academic studies that led him to doctoral research in quantum physics, he was already working professionally as a skipper. Twelve years ago, he chose to dedicate himself fully to sailing. Since then, he has skippered high-performance yachts from leading European brands and has held a sailing instructor’s license since 2011. His vision to offer high-quality sailing experiences led to the creation of Ulysses Sailing.

Kostas Andrikou, trained in economics, discovered early that his strengths were practical and technical rather than office-based. He entered the performance charter environment and spent over a decade working within a growing fleet, developing deep knowledge of yacht systems, maintenance cycles, and operational organization. As fleet size expanded, he became base manager, overseeing both technical and logistical operations.

Yannis Giannakou studied engineering and physics at the National Technical University of Athens. During his studies, he began working within the same performance charter environment, initially on deck operations and progressively moving into technical roles, yacht preparation, transfers, and base management. His engineering background brought structure and systems thinking into complex marine operations.

The Professional Foundation

Much of the practical foundation of HydraTech was built during years working within a high-performance charter fleet.

In that demanding environment, the three founders gained hands-on experience with performance-oriented yachts, weekly operational cycles, technical problem-solving under pressure, and precise preparation standards.

They have worked on brands including Pogo, JPK, Solaris, Swan, Outremer, X-Yachts, Neo, Hallberg-Rassy, AMEL and others. They have visited leading European shipyards and participated in major industry exhibitions (Boot, Cannes etc.).

Those years formed a shared standard: detail matters, systems must work, and responsibility cannot be fragmented.

From Parallel Efforts to One Structure

After years of collaboration:

  • Dimitris had established Ulysses Sailing as a high-quality charter and sailing operation.
  • Kostas and Yannis had launched a technical company focused on yacht maintenance and repair.

Over time, the collaboration deepened.

Rather than operate separately, they aligned ownership and direction.
HydraTech Marine was formed as a unified structure, while Ulysses Sailing operates as a trusted allied company within the same ecosystem.

Ulysses remains active in charter operations and yacht ownership.
HydraTech Marine manages technical services, private yacht management, and operational oversight — including full support for Ulysses’ fleet as well as independent client projects.

The integration is deliberate.
It ensures operational depth, technical consistency, and long-term stability.

A Shared Foundation

The three founders did not meet through business networking.
They grew up in the same community, learned from each other at different stages of life, and built their professional experience side by side.

That continuity shapes the company today.

HydraTech Marine is not the result of a single opportunity.
It is the result of years of shared work, aligned standards, and gradual evolution.
